About Appleby-In-Westmorland

Appleby-In-Westmorland is located within the Eden valley which has much to offer visitors who want to enjoy quiet countryside through walking, riding on horse or bicycle, fishing or enjoying nature conservation. Within a short distance is the Yorkshire Dales National Park and the Lake District National Park. The town is well known for its historic buildings and compact location within a loop of the river Eden. Appleby developed as the market town of Westmorland after the Norman Conquest, having a strategic position in the Eden valley. It is an attractive market town with a great deal of interest and charm. By any standards it is small having a population of only 2,500 but this is increased in summer with visitors to the town and surrounding countryside.
